Polgigga - Sennen Cove Birwatching Site Guide


	Polgigga Pronounced `Poljigga` - 2.5 miles east-southeast of Land`s End at sw 238 : 378 (Sports Field).

Polgigga includes Trethewey , and is collectively known as St.Levan .
Birders recognise St.Levan as the area round St.Levan Church ; known locally as Churchtown !

Rural farmland is Polgigga - and rarities often reflect that habitat, with Richard`s Pipits and Ortolan Buntings being typical.

To the southeast of Polgigga is Porthcurno ; with farmland bordering the roads.
Rare gulls - particularly Glaucous and Iceland - often visit Polgigga ....the Sports field is a good spot particularly in winter when it can become waterlogged.

Polgigga can be reached both from the Land`s End direction and the St.Buryan / Treen direction.
From Land`s End , take the B 3315 off the A30 (signed Porthcurno) - Polgigga about 2.5 miles.
From St.Buryan follow the B 3283 and then the B 3315 (again signed Porthcurno) ....avoid the left turn to Porthcurno just after the Trethewey signs ; and this brings you to Polgigga.

There are public conveniences at the Sports field ; and a public telephone nearby adjacent to the Methodist Chapel .....no other facilities.
There is a shop and pub at Porthcurno ; a good pub at Treen - and plenty of facilities at Sennen.

At the crossroads by Shop Pool, a minor road sets off to the southwest to the famous birdwatching venue of Porthgwarra.
Superb farmland habitat all along this road .
Similarly , the B 3315 from Polgigga to Sennen cuts through farmland...most of these fields have produced rarities over the years , particularly when freshly sown.
