Tuesday 23rd June
On Tuesday 23rd June, around 3.30pm, my wife & I saw an otter in the sea
between Maen Dower & Aire Point. The exact point is slightly nearer Aire
Point, just off rocks which advance into the sea. The otter was diving &
coming up to rest near a rock, so not far off the shore, just a few yards. I
first saw the otter, completely by chance, without binoculars & thought it
seemed something strange but with my 10 x 42 Zeiss binoculars there was no
doubt, although we never expected to see an otter there. We were somewhere
between 150 & 200 yards from it, & looking down on it, in perfect
visibility, & had only drunk water at lunchtime. We watched it for maybe ten
minutes before it disappeared, no doubt coming on to shore below us &
hidden. Another walker stopped & could see enough of it with his eyes to
think he too had seen his first otter in the wild. (thanks Laure & Michael).
