This is a brief update on the final three league games of the season.
On April 28th Sennen went to Wendron on the back of two previous defeats to Crown Inn and Threemilestone. Nothing short of a win would do. In windy but bright conditions Sennen playing into the wind pushed forward with only the occasional break to contend with. The defence coped well, with Ollie George replacing the injured Ben George at centre back. With Jeb, Matt and Dave pushing on the only result was going to be how many would we win by. At half time we were leading by 2 - 0 with goals from Jacko and Jack Jeavon. The second half was the same with Sennen pressing and never looking like losing. The final score was 5 - 2 to Sennen with two more goals from Jack and one from Glenn Marsden. Man of the match was Ollie George
On Tuesday 1st May, Sennen played Crown Inn Glory in a promotion decider with Sennen needing all three points to guarantee a second promotion place but Crown only needing a draw for second place with superior goal average. The game was very evenly matched with both sides pressing and creating chances. At half time the score was still deadlocked at 0 - 0. Soon after the restart Sennen pushed forward more convincingly and went into the lead through a Jack Jeavon penalty. We managed to hold the lead and look good for it, but Crown pressed and scored two in five minutes with good forward play from their impressive centre forward who made a kick and rush side into a team. Unfortunately an error from Dave and Mikey at the back led to Crown taking the lead with a soft tap in. Sennen equalised through a great goal from Paul Jackson who converted a near post cross fron Steve Jones. With five minutes to go another defensive error led to Crown taking the lead and perhaps second spot, but with seconds left Jack Jeavon was pulled down in the box for another penalty which he converted for a deserved 3 - 3 draw. Man of the match was Jack Jeavon.
The final game of the season was played on Saturday 5th May at Nancegollen against St.Ives Mariners. Sennen never looked like losing and never lost the lead from early on against a mid table side with nothing to play for. At half time we were 4 -3 up with only slack defence to blame after some good forward moves. In the second half more of the same with Sennen runnning out 8 - 5 winners with a less than convincing performance. Man of the match was Glenn Marsden with three goals.
With Crown Inn Glory winning 12 nil at Frogpool it looks like Sennen will end up in third on goal difference behind Halsetown and Crown.
Crown play their last fixture away to St.Buryan on Tuesday at 6.15 with nothing less than three points needed to keep Sennen in third place.
The likelyhood is that three or even four sides will be promoted from division three due to changes in the first division, but we will not know until the end of June.
The end of season award night is Friday 11th May at the Cable Station. First bus leaves F&L at 7pm.
